What does the ESP_a118_hfcActive alert mean?

The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) detects that the one or more of the brakes are faded, causing Hydraulic Fade Compensation (HFC) to be activated.

What triggers it

HFC is activated because all of the following conditions have been met: (1) the master cylinder pressure exceeds a certain pressure; (2) the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is not active; (3) the vehicle does not decelerate in time.

When it clears

HFC is no longer active.

Potential impact

Braking performance may be reduced due to faded brakes. The ESP pump may be activated to increase the brake pressure.
